Scaffolding is assistance given by a teacher or coach to a learner that helps them take risks and achieve at a higher level than the learner could on their own. Scaffolding provides students with the crucial learning support they need to move from initial acquisition of a concept or skill toward independent performance of the concept/skill. The support can take many forms such as: A) outlines, B) recommended readings or media, C) storyboards, or D) key questions.
