Activate Background Knowledge
When a learner has some prior knowledge on a topic, it makes it much easier for the learner to develop connections to new information and build schema to use in future learning experiences. In developing learning content, the teacher or developer can assist with this by anchoring the new information with information that was previously taught. Pre-teaching of key concepts and vocabulary is another way to develop and engage background knowledge. Making cross-curricular connections is a valuable strategy to help students properly explore all they know about a given topic.
