Relevance, Value, and Authenticity
When learners see and understand the relevance and value of the content they are expected to learn, they are more engaged in the learning process. If the learner doesn’t understand the relevance of the content, and how the content directly relates to them, they will not fully invest in the learning experience. The designer can make the content more relevant by finding ways to make it personal for the learner, to associate it with socially and culturally current events, make it grade and ability level appropriate. When planning activities related to the content, provide options for active participation, self-reflection, and the use of imagination to solve problems.
